Dear Friends,
On the recommendation of several sources, I will shortly be starting a home advice/cooking show on YouTube called "June the Homemaker," geared toward college-age people and young adults just starting to live alone. The concept of the show is that traditionally in the good old days, young women were taught how to do homemaker things that were useful things to know. Now, since young women have professional lives and aren't expected to live barefoot and pregnant in the kitchen, society hasn't found a way to pick up the slack and teach us all the useful household things that your Mom always knew how to do.
The show will include episodes teaching you how to do things you'd ordinarily have to call Mom to learn about, and I'll be learning to do things in order to teach them! What I'm asking for from you are topics for advice - what did you always want to know how to do, and never had the opportunity to learn? What have you found yourself having to call home for advice about? Below are a list of topics that have already been suggested, and if you have any additions just leave them in the comments or on my Facebook wall!
Topics:
-How to boil a chicken with vegetables (and how to use the leftovers to make a delicious chicken soup)
-How to make dumplings
-How to sew on a button
-How to iron (it's tricky!)
-How to fold square corners on a bed sheet
-How to get off sticky things with household materials (peanut butter, olive oil, etc.)
-How to knit (basic)
-How to sew/mend (basic)
