Thanksgiving+Animal heads = Party!

There was a time when my stepfather Rob's brother Jim responded to an invitation to my sister's birthday at our house with a dead duck in the back of his truck which he showed to Megan. This led to our family mantra, "Uncle Jim plus dead duck equals party!" The same principle holds for Thanksgiving at Uncle Jim's house.

This Thanksgiving was good...many people have heard the stories of my life already, but here we go again...Usually at Thanksgiving we have Mom, Rob, Meg, Me, Uncle Jim, Aunt Barbara, and my mom's parents. My grandpa passed away last summer, so this year Aunt Barbara took the grams to my Uncle Gene and Aunt Dee's house, leaving just the five of us for Thanksgiving. We decided to go to Uncle Jim's house, which was a BLAST!

Before that though, Meg and I had to go visit Dad, which involved going to get my grandparents from the Presbyterian home, sitting through a fight they had with Dad about whether they had to take their walkers or not, and then going back to his house for some coffee and small talk and whatever. We also watched a home movie, which was awkward for the following reasons:

1. It was filmed at my grandparents' house, which they are selling now because they will live in the Presbyterian home until they die and this is upsetting to them
2. It was filmed when I was 18mos old, so Mom and Dad were still together and my stepmom was right there watching it with us, and this is upsetting to my grandparents
3. It was when my Uncle Bob and Aunt Linell were still together, which is no longer true, and this is upsetting to my grandparents
4. It was when my Aunt Mare was still alive, and this is upsetting to my grandparents

Now, I will grant you a few things. First, that it was cute to watch the video and remember stuff. It was just also all of the awkward.

Then Meg and I went to grandma's house to see Mom, stole the pies and ran away, hah hah hah haaaa!!! We went to Uncle Jim's house (because I was starving at that time) while she was washing dishes, and then Rob came, and then I took all of the pictures! The food was so good I ate WAY too much and had a stomachache hardcore. Like, it took me four hours to just feel full instead of disgusting. What a day! Then on Friday, I woke up obscenely early (5am) to go Black Friday shopping with Liz as per tradition. We went to the following places and I bought the following things:

1. Michaels: 4 votive candle holders which will function nicely as shot glasses
2. Old Navy: 1 grey zip-up sweater and 1 teal fleece vest
3. Kohl's: 1 sage green blanket for my bed and 1 silver platter (in case I ever want to be Salome again)
4. Coldwater Creek: CLOSED, the bastards
Then we got Liz's mom a frappucino and I went to the bank and we picked her up and then...
5. Wal Mart: 1 4-setting package of Oneida flatware, 1 collection of socks, 1 baking sheet
6. Bed, Bath & Beyond: 1 container of sea salt and 1 tie hanger for my scarves
Then we went to lunch at Raspberries, and then...
7. Macy's: nothing purchased
8. Target: 1 set stemless white wine glasses, 1 set stemless red wine glasses

After this excursion, I was ALL the possible tired and was filled with bad food and coffee, which made me feel gross. I still had Nora to see, however, and so I rallied my strength (although Liz, unfortunately and understandably, excused herself from the rest of my day process) and headed to the Clinton shopper's stroll. I ran into the Pellman family, out in good form in the semi-winter weather, and then found Nora and Rowan, who are two of my favorites. We went to the Dessert Booth, were greeted from behind the counter by a still-townie Nick Stagliano, and consumed more deliciousness. Then we went to Captain Tripp's where I bought some of those gloves we all loved in 7th grade, Nora looked at hippie clothes and Rowan admired his pipe collection. Ahem.

Afterwards, I was invited back to Nora's house for a lovely dinner of chicken stew prepared by the always-domestic Mrs. Mathews and some fun with Arno who is one of my favorite people even though he is a dog and not a person. I love him a lot.

After the dinner, I dropped the kids off for the parade in Clinton and returned to Rome, where I met up with Daniela, my always-friend from childhood, and we went out for coffee and stuff. Turns out we're having a lot of the same life difficulties in graduate school, and it was really good to see her and catch up and stuff!!! I will be visiting her in her New York-esque place where she lives in January, when I have to go into the city for my baby Chautauqua audition. WOO!

On Saturday, I slept in because that was TOTALLY required, and then I got myself together and went to lunch with Miss Jessica at the Panera place, which, as always, was an awesome time. We then went to Karaz shoes, where I reserved a pair of chocolate brown Uggs to be purchased when I return home for Christmas break. I know...judge me! I don't care! They're super well-made and will last forever and are also adorable!

Then by happenstance, I was able to catch Victoria at the Barnes and Noble, and we went for coffee at the new coffee shop in Clinton, which was my new favorite place. I will TOTALLY be going there for tarot readings when I get home. It will be all of the fun. She would not let me put her in my facebook album, sad face, but it will happen someday!

So, that was my break! As for being back here...I'm not quite so sure about it yet, but things have been okay, and I am having a Mary Kay party on Dec. 5th at 7pm if anyone wants to come for it! I mean, it's a Wednesday night, so probs not, but I just wanted to throw that out there.

I will end with a quote from an im from Jon Stults, who always sends me crazy things (I think it is on purpose because they almost always appear subsequently in my away messages):

stomptyrant(9:23:01AM):he's in the span
stomptyrant(9:23:07AM):tween wolf and man
stomptyrant(9:23:19AM):he licks our blood
stomptyrant(9:23:32AM):and chews our bones

On that note...*scene*
