Why "The Adventures of Robin Hood" starring Errol Flynn is the best movie of all time!

So last night, my friend Daniela and I forwent going to the actual movies to watch "The Adventures of Robin Hood" at my house because it's way better than going to the movies. Also we used to watch it OBSESSIVELY when we were kids. I can remember when my mom first sat us down in front of the movie, and told me how cool it was, and sure enough, it was great! So now I'm going to tell you WHY it's great! Of course, it's a list, folks:

1. Errol Flynn is badass, and rumor has it he had junk in the trunk to back it up if you know what I'm sayin'
2. What a cast! Not only Errol Flynn, but also Olivia de Havilland, Basil Rathbone, and Claude Rains!
3. The music is SO COOL. It's super adventure-type music, and it even won an Oscar in its day for best soundtrack!
4. The supporting cast is great. I still laugh at the 1938-style humor now, because it's still friggin' funny!
5. It's from the movie era when people didn't know enough what they were doing to do things in a fake way. Like, when Robin Hood fights Friar Tuck in a river, Errol Flynn and that guy really go into a river and duke it out! And when the guys are supposed to jump out of trees and things, they climb up into trees and jump out of them! The horses look more than mildly distressed by this, but I think this was an era before PETA was picketing movie sets as well. The most fake thing about the movie is the leaf and grass color, because they couldn't get into the parks and things for outdoor shots until fall had started and so they painted all the leaves green with spraypaint. Oh, the 1930s. I long for you, but you were dangerous to the water table!
6. Olivia de Havilland only shows her hair in one scene! It's kind of crazy. The rest of the time her head is covered by these jumpsuit-dresses she wears and veils stand in for her hair, and then there's this one scene supposedly in her bedroom where she has her hair out and it's like 35 FEET of hair in two french braids! What the heck?!
7. I love old movies because people are real sizes. I feel like actresses today are stick-thin and that's what makes them special, but back then women were beautiful because they were BEAUTIFUL. I'm not sure if that's better or worse, because it creates a genetically- and subjectively-selective system...if you're fat you can lose weight to get into Hollywood, but if you're not pretty there's not a whole lot you can do. Anyway they are real-sized and beautiful and I think that's awesome.
8. In the same way that they couldn't fake anything, there are obviously TONS of extras in these fight scenes, fighting along with all the main characters. It's nuts! Like, they actually created a realistic place that could fit all of these people where they could fight and whatever? A REAL MOVIE SET??? No!

Anyway that's why I like Robin Hood. It friggin' never gets old! And anyway, it's on Netflix play-on-demand, so you should totally watch it!
